Managing Directors

Karen McNamara BEnvSc (Hons), PhD Social Analysis Coordinator

Dr Karen McNamara is a highly experienced social scientist. Karen has over eight years of experience in researching social processes and change in Australia and overseas. She specialises in community needs assessments, community engagement and the evaluation of programs with expected social outcomes. She has a PhD in Geography and an Honours degree in Environmental Science, both from the University of New South Wales.

Prior to coming to the Centre for Biogeographical Research, Karen worked as a full-time lecturer at the University of New South Wales, teaching units in environmental science and the humanities. Karen also worked as a policy analyst with the Global Policy Forum in New York. Karen has worked in the field of social analysis in Australia, Fiji, Indonesia, and the United States of America. To date, highlights of Karen's career have ranged from climate change policy analysis at the United Nations to developing sustainable partnerships with farmers from tsunami-affected coastal communities in Aceh, Indonesia.

Roy Wilson BSc (Hons), MSc Data and Statistics Coordinator

Roy Wilson holds an MSc (research) in Ecology and a Bachelor of Physical Geography; both from the University of New South Wales and is currently completing a Masters in Statistics. Roy has extensive experience in the management and analysis of complex data sets and has developed several models.

During his career, Roy has worked as a research ecologist for the Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand and has held a number of positions within consultancies, with his most recent position being Ecological Services Coordinator for a Sydney-based consultancy. Roy currently holds a NSW DECC Scientific Licence and is listed as a Principal Investigator by the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

Jason Reynolds BSc (Hons), PhD Soils and Water Coordinator

Jason received his PhD from the University of New South Wales on quantifying elemental bioaccesibility in acid sulfate landscapes. He is a specialist in the use of biologic surrogates to measure the potential impacts from contaminated landscapes. He has worked as a private consultant in land contamination, with government departments on salinity and with several Scandinavian research organisations on the design and usage of thin-films. He has been the recipient of the European Unions, CIMO award twice over (2005 and 2007) for his research into biologic uptake.

Jason has published research in both domestic and international journals. His interests include hydrogeochemistry and application of hydrogels to measure biologic uptake.
